GM Grande

Design and implementation of an iPad app that guides children to correct exercise methods through motion analysis

Role: Design / iOS App Development

We were responsible for the UI design and implementation of the GM Grande iPad Application, which was planned and developed by the members of Robotics and Mechatronic Course, Future Science Department of the Tokyo Denki University in collaboration with Suzuki Laboratory and DENTSU SCIENCEJAM.

GM Grande is an iPad product aimed for usage by childcare professionals in nurseries or any similar environments and teachers in primary school. The function and purpose of the product was to analyse visual input of children’s gross motor activity (children’s movements) and provide educators with insights to allow for a more effective guidance on the children’s movement technique.

At the point where we joined in on the project, the entire application’s wireframe, gross motor movement analysis algorithm and the prototype application for recording and video analysis was already developed.

Our company utilised MVVM Architecture and Reactive Programming to achieve the following goals: simplifying asynchronous processing, integrating it with the UI, and ensuring clear and understandable coordination.

We were in charge of the splash screen, icon and UI based on the wireframe provided.

As the service was meant for childcare services, we used a “soft” colour palette. As we assumed that the service was going to be used in outdoor settings, we used contrasting colours to make sure that the design is still visible under the sun. We designed the icon and splash screen with the main theme of the design including a ball-throwing humanoid form and using the G from “GM Grande” to convey the sporty/youthful/motion-analytic features of the application.
